Jajpur: Popular Odia actor-turned-politician Akash Das Nayak has carved out a distinct identity in public life, transitioning from a successful film career to active politics with a focus on public service and regional development. Widely known for his performances in Odia cinema, Akash Das Nayak earned popularity through a series of commercially successful films and established himself as one of the state’s prominent actors. His on-screen image, often portraying characters embodying courage and justice, made him a familiar face across Odisha. In recent years, however, he has shifted his attention from the entertainment industry to public life. As the MLA from Korei and a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha, he has been working on issues related to infrastructure development, agriculture, irrigation, education, youth empowerment and the strengthening of public services in his constituency. Akash Das Nayak says his approach to public life is centred on engaging with people, understanding their concerns and working towards practical solutions. He believes that elected representatives should be judged by their work on the ground rather than by public acclaim. His commitment to Odisha’s culture and heritage continues to remain an integral part of his public identity. He has often spoken about the importance of preserving the state’s language, traditions and cultural values, while drawing inspiration from the spiritual legacy of Lord Jagannath. Political observers note that his transition from cinema to politics reflects a broader trend of public personalities entering electoral politics. Supporters view his film career as having helped him connect with people, while his political journey has been shaped by his efforts to establish credibility through constituency work and public engagement. For Akash Das Nayak, the move from cinema to politics represents a shift from entertaining audiences to addressing public concerns. While his career in films brought him recognition, his current focus remains on governance, development and serving the people of Korei and Odisha. Today, Akash Das Nayak is recognised not only as a familiar face from the Odia film industry but also as a public representative seeking to contribute to the state’s development through his role in public life.
