Jajpur ,05/09(PPT): Three persons were arrested and 20 grams of suspected brown sugar was seized during a police operation near Neulpur village under Dharmasala police station in Jajpur district on Saturday, police said.
Addressing a press conference at the Dharmasala police station, SDPO, Jajpur Road, Sarat Patra, said the operation was carried out by a police team led by Sub-Inspector Dilip Kumar Dehuri while he was on routine patrolling duty. Dharmasala IIC Chunmayee Sahoo was also present at the press meet.
Acting on specific information that suspected brown sugar was being sold near a hill close to Neulpur village, the police team reached the spot and apprehended three persons, Patra said.
The seizure was subsequently conducted in the presence of the Dharmasala Tahasildar and two government witnesses, police said.
The seized items include 20 grams of suspected brown sugar packed in 72 paper packets, Rs 3,120 in cash, two mobile phones—Motorola and Oppo—and a red Hero Honda CD Dawn motorcycle bearing registration number OR 05 V 5197.
The arrested persons were identified as Sk Allarakha (32), son of late Sk Mitu of Neulpur; Sk Guladastad alias Mithun (30), son of Hapiz Uddin of Neulpur; and Sk Mahammad alias Chand (37), son of Sk Ahimmad of Sunduria village under Dharmasala police station.
A case has been registered at Dharmasala police station under Sections 21(b) and 29(1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway, police said.
