Five held on suspicion of planning bank dacoity in Jajpur’s Byree .

Jajpur,16/09(PPT): Police arrested five persons allegedly preparing to commit a dacoity at banks in the Byree Police Station area of Jajpur district in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to the police, a night patrol team led by Sub-Inspector Saroj Kumar Behera received information around 1.25 a.m. that five persons had assembled in an open field behind Erasama village with the intention of committing a dacoity at nearby banks.

A police team subsequently raided the spot and apprehended the five suspects. They were identified as Basudev Das alias Basu, 23, of Champapur; Rama Chandra Sendh alias Ramji, 29, of Company Bazar; Subash Behera alias Dhuna, 40, of Bidyadharpur; Giria Behera, 19, and Somanath Moharana alias Sonu, 26, both of Amarabati Patana. All are residents of the Byree police station area, police said.

Police said two katas, two screwdrivers and two iron rods were seized from the suspects. Eight liquor bottles, including five empty bottles, 10 packets of chilli powder, two candles, a matchbox and a torchlight were also seized.

A case has been registered at Byree police station under Sections 310(4) and 310(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is under way.

Jajpur Road SDPO Sarat Chandra Patra and Byree police station Inspector-in-Charge Ranjit Mohanty were present during the briefing.
