Jajpur ,01/09(PPT): Relief materials were distributed among around 1,200 flood-affected people in Bandalo gram panchayat of Korei block on Sunday by the ‘Akash Bahini’, an initiative associated with Korei MLA Akash Dasnayak.

The relief distribution was carried out under the leadership of Bandalo sarpanch Bishnu Charan Rath and covered several affected villages, including Rautpada, Bandalo, Sundarpur, Jamunapatana, Mathasahi, Chaudhuripatana, Tiker and Ishwarapatana.

The relief packets contained flattened rice (chuda), sugar, biscuits and other essential ration items.

Bandalo gram panchayat has been among the worst-affected areas in Korei block following repeated flooding of the Baitarani river. With the river’s water level rising again on Monday, large tracts of agricultural land in the panchayat were submerged, adding to the difficulties faced by local residents and farmers.

Bjp State Council member Prakash Dhal, Jajpur district Mahila Morcha president Diptimayee Kuanr, Naib Sarpanch Manorama Sahu, ward members Jagannath Sahu and Kartik Jena, along with volunteers of the Akash Bahini, assisted in the relief distribution programme.

Local residents said continued flooding has affected agricultural activities and caused hardship in several villages of the panchayat.
