Born on August 29, 1905, in Allahabad, Dhyan Chand was brought up in a family with an army background. He inherited a love for the army and sports from his father. Surprisingly, Chand’s initial sports interest was not field hockey but wrestling. However, his eventual shift to hockey would rewrite the history of the sport, marking him as one of its greatest players. Dhyan Chand joined the Indian Army at the age of 16.
