Kendrapara,26/10(PPT): Dr. Satyajit Nayak, IPS, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Central Range, Cuttack, on Monday reviewed security and law-and-order arrangements for Kendrapara’s historic Gajalaxmi Puja, which is marking its centenary year.

The IGP inspected the preparedness of the district police and issued necessary instructions to officers to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the celebrations. Elaborate security arrangements have been made across the town, with 22 platoons of police force deployed, supported by two Additional Superintendents of Police, 10 Deputy Superintendents of Police, 20 Inspectors-in-Charge, 150 Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 250 constables and 300 Home Guards.

To strengthen crowd management and respond swiftly to emergencies, eight special teams, each led by an Inspector and supported by a platoon of police personnel, have been formed. Six temporary police outposts have also been established at strategic locations. Striking forces and mobile bike patrol units will maintain heightened vigilance throughout the celebrations.

Technology has been integrated into the security plan, with a round-the-clock control room and 32 CCTV cameras monitoring important locations and crowded areas. Body-worn cameras have been provided to police officers for greater transparency and accountability, while drones are being used for aerial surveillance. Special parking and traffic-management measures have been introduced to facilitate the movement of devotees and visitors. Anti-snatching and anti-eve-teasing teams, operating in plain clothes, have also been deployed to enhance public safety, particularly for women.

Following the review, Dr. Nayak led a flag march along with Kendrapara Superintendent of Police Sidharth Kateria, IPS, to reassure the public and deter anti-social elements. For the immersion procession, 35 platoons of police force will be deployed to maintain law and order and ensure the peaceful conclusion of the festivities.

The district police have appealed to residents, devotees and Puja committees to cooperate with the administration, follow traffic and parking regulations, refrain from spreading rumours and promptly report any suspicious activity to the police control room or the nearest police personnel. The police administration has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the 100-year-old festival is celebrated in a safe, peaceful and festive atmosphere.
