Former Odisha revenue clerk gets four-year jail term in bribery case .

Bargarh, 24/09 : A former senior clerk of the Bhatli Tahasil Office, Gobardhan Meher, was sentenced to four years’ rigorous imprisonment by the Special Vigilance Judge, Bargarh, on Tuesday in a ₹5,000 bribery case. Meher was convicted of demanding and accepting the bribe from a farmer for releasing a cheque towards drought compensation. The court also imposed a fine on him. Meher, who was later posted as a senior clerk in the Revenue Section of the Bargarh Collectorate, was booked under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Following the court’s order, he was sent to jail to serve the sentence. The Vigilance Department said it would move the competent authority for his dismissal from government service following the conviction.
