Central Range Police on High Alert as Heavy Rain Threatens Flood-Like Situation .
Cuttack,24/09(PPT): In view of the prevailing weather conditions and the possibility of heavy rainfall and a flood-like situation in parts of Odisha, the Central Range Police has strengthened preparedness and response measures across all districts under its jurisdiction, with particular attention to vulnerable areas of Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur.
Dr Satyajit Nayak, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Cuttack, has directed all Superintendents of Police to remain alert and maintain close coordination with district administrations, Fire Services, ODRAF, NDRF, Civil Defence, local authorities and other emergency-response agencies. Police units have been instructed to closely monitor rainfall, river-water levels, waterlogging and other emerging situations and ensure prompt deployment of personnel wherever required.
In Jajpur district, special attention is being given to flood-prone and low-lying areas, vulnerable roads, bridges and locations where rising river water or waterlogging could disrupt vehicular movement. Police teams have been kept ready for traffic regulation, evacuation support, rescue assistance, maintenance of law and order and protection of life and property. Adequate manpower is being maintained on standby for immediate deployment to areas requiring assistance.
In Jagatsinghpur, preparedness has also been intensified in view of the possibility of heavy rainfall, waterlogging and flooding in low-lying areas. Police stations and field officers have been directed to maintain round-the-clock situational awareness and remain in constant touch with the district administration and rescue agencies. Police teams are being kept ready to assist in evacuation, facilitate movement of emergency vehicles, regulate traffic and support rescue operations.
Across the Central Range, all SPs have been directed to review preparedness at the field level and ensure continuous communication between police stations, district control rooms and field units. Police personnel are being prepared for emergency deployment, while arrangements are being made to facilitate the movement of ODRAF, NDRF, Fire Services and other rescue teams. Traffic diversions will be enforced wherever roads become unsafe or inundated.
Special attention is being given to vulnerable persons, including children, women, senior citizens and those requiring assistance. Police will also take preventive measures against theft, looting and other criminal activities in evacuated or vulnerable areas. Public-address systems and other communication channels will be used wherever necessary to disseminate safety advisories.
“Our priority is the protection of life, timely response and seamless coordination. Police personnel have been instructed to remain proactive and reach vulnerable communities before the situation becomes critical,” said Dr Satyajit Nayak, IPS, IGP, Central Range.
He appealed to people to remain calm, follow advisories issued by the district administration and police, and avoid unnecessary movement through flooded roads or strong water currents. The public has also been urged to immediately inform the police or administration about emergencies and avoid spreading rumours or unverified information on social media.
“People should rely only on information issued through official channels. The Odisha Police is fully prepared to respond to any emerging situation. Our teams are on alert and resources are being mobilised as required to ensure the safety and security of the people,” Dr Nayak said.
Safety of citizens remains the foremost priority of the Central Range Police.
