Grassroots Policing Must Be Strengthened First: Sabyasachi Sahu .

Jajpur,22/09(PPT): Social worker Sabyasachi Sahu has urged the Odisha Government to focus on strengthening existing police stations, filling vacancies and improving frontline policing before expanding the police range structure.

“Ensuring justice to ordinary citizens is the fundamental duty of the police. The shortage of personnel in several police stations is a matter of concern. Our priority should be to strengthen the existing policing system,” Mr. Sahu said.

His remarks come amid the proposal for a Nilachal Range comprising Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh districts. He said administrative restructuring should be backed by adequate manpower, modern investigation facilities, mobility, communication systems and cyber and forensic support. Mr. Sahu also called for stronger community-oriented policing and said recent investments in police infrastructure must be matched with adequate staffing and trained personnel.
