12 kg ganja seized near Chandikhol, two arrested .

JAJPUR,17/09(PPT): The Badachana police on Wednesday seized 12 kg of ganja and arrested two persons in connection with its alleged transportation for sale near Chandikhol in Jajpur district.

The seizure was made at around 7.32 p.m. on September 16 near the Chandikhol court on NH-53, police said. A blue-black Maruti Suzuki Brezza bearing registration number OD-33-AW-8004, two mobile phones and ₹850 in cash were also seized.

Jajpur Road Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sarat Chandra Patra briefed the media about the seizure. The Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Badachana police station was also present during the briefing.

According to the police, a team led by Sub-Inspector Truptimayee Rout, along with other personnel of Badachana police station, intercepted the vehicle during checking. The police subsequently searched the vehicle and allegedly recovered the contraband from the possession of the two occupants.

The arrested persons have been identified as Laxmidhar Sahoo (44), son of Bipin Bihari Sahoo of Ansal village under Nimapara police station in Puri district, and Chandini Sahani (42), daughter of Bashistha Sahani of Sripalla Harijansahi under Piringia police station in Kandhamal district.

The police have registered Badachana police station Case No. 307 dated September 16, 2026, under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The police said the two persons were allegedly transporting the ganja with the intention of selling it. Further investigation is under way to establish the source of the contraband, its intended destination and whether other persons were involved in the alleged trafficking network.

The seized vehicle, mobile phones, cash and ganja have been taken into police custody as part of the investigation. The accused persons are being proceeded against under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
