Jajpur,16/05(PPT):The ongoing shortage of petrol and diesel across Odisha on Friday triggered sharp political reactions with opposition parties accusing the BJP-led Central and State Governments of creating an “artificial fuel crisis” and failing to manage fuel supply effectively. Bjd Leader & Former Minster Priti ranjan Ghadei alleged that the prevailing situation is the result of administrative failure, policy confusion and lack of transparency by the “doubleengine government”. he claimed that despite repeated assurances from the government regarding adequate fuel stock, several petrol pumps across districts are either shut or operating with restricted supply. Rejecting claims that dealers are unable to procure fuel due to payment-related issues, Ghadei said oil companies function on an advance payment system. The revised supply norms, under which fuel refilling is allowed only after stock falls below 30%, are causing delays of three to four days and leaving several outlets dry. He demanded immediate revision of the stocking policy and reduction in fuel taxes, including VAT and excise duty, to provide relief to consumers. He also criticised the Centre for allegedly failing to prepare for possible supply disruptions amid global tensions and volatility in crude oil prices. He said people are being forced to stand in long queues at petrol pumps, comparing the situation to the demonetisation period. He alleged that despite collecting huge revenue through fuel excise duties over the past decade, the Centre had failed to strengthen India’s emergency fuel reserves. He also questioned why India is not importing discounted crude oil from Russia. Ghadei accused the Modi government of ignoring early warning signs of a fuel crisis.
