Bhubaneswar /Jajpur,04/06 :In a night painted red and gold, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally lifted their maiden IPL trophy, defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in a nail-biting final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After losing the toss, RCB were asked to bat first and managed to post a competitive total of 190/9 in their 20 overs. Virat Kohli anchored the innings with a steady 43 off 35 balls, while Rajat Patidar (26 off 16), Jitesh Sharma (24 off 10), and Liam Livingstone (25 off 15) chipped in with vital contributions. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, RCB found timely boundaries to keep the scoreboard ticking and set PBKS a target of 191. In reply, Punjab Kings looked threatening at multiple stages. Josh Inglis gave them early momentum with a brisk 39 off 23 balls, while Shashank Singh kept the chase alive with a sensational unbeaten 61 off just 30 balls. But RCB’s bowlers held their nerve in the high-pressure moments, especially in the final overs. Krunal Pandya turned out to be the game-changer with the ball, delivering a match-winning spell of 4-0-17-2, including the key wickets of Inglis and Nehal Wadhera. His economical and disciplined bowling earned him the Player of the Match award. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also struck twice, while Yash Dayal, Josh Hazlewood, and Romario Shepherd claimed a wicket each. PBKS needed 29 runs off the final two overs and kept hopes alive with Shashank at the crease. But RCB’s experienced campaigners, including Hazlewood and a composed fielding unit, kept things tight. With precise execution under pressure, they held on to seal a six-run win and with it, end a 17-year-long wait for IPL glory. For RCB fans, it was a moment of catharsis. After painful near-misses in 2009, 2011, and 2016, and years of loyal support echoing the chant “Ee Sala Cup Namde,” the dream has finally been realised. The victory is a testament to resilience, belief, and an unbreakable bond between the team and its passionate supporters.
