JAJPUR,26/11(PPT):Higher education minister Suryabanshi Suraj is keen to see the Buddhist sites of Lalitgiri, Ratnagiri and Udayagiri in Jajpur district get the world heritage site tag. Inaugurating the two-day Udayagiri Buddha Mahotsav, Suraj said the govt will take necessary steps to include these famous sites on the world heritage map. “The findings of numerous Buddha images, stupas and monasteries are not only historically significant, but also reveal the artistic excellence and iconographic know-how about the Buddhist era,” Suraj said, adding, “A museum will be built at Udayagiri to preserve Buddha images and other artefacts unearthed from Udayagiri.” The minister also stressed the need to organise such mahostavs to exchange ideas on Buddhism and spread Lord Buddha’s message. “These famous Buddhist sites remind us of our past. The state is committed to promoting Buddhist sites as part of the state’s socio-cultural ethos,” Suraj added.
