Jajpur,20/01(PPT ):The Bharatiya Janata Party officially named Nitin Nabin as its new national president on Tuesday, marking a clear generational shift in the saffron party’s top leadership. At 45, Nabin became the youngest leader to take charge of the largest national political party in the country. Nabin was sworn at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi and in the presence of party bigwhigs such as PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Ministers JP Nadda, Nitin Gadkari, and Piyush Goyal. During the event, the prime minister felicitated Nabin to mark his elevated status within the party. Prior to becoming the national president, he had been appointed BJP’s working president in December 2025, taking over from veteran leader Nadda. The formal announcement ends weeks of internal deliberations and comes as the party gears up for a packed election cycle as critical states such as West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are set to vote in a new government later this year. Assam, a state currently ruled by the BJP, but in political turmoil is also set for Assembly elections this year. Moreover, Nabin’s elevation comes amid broader discussions within the party about organisational strategy and coordination with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Over the past few months, the former Bihar MLA travelled extensively across states, meeting party cadres and stressing the need for sustained ground-level work. Meanwhile, the saffron party’s strong performance in the subsequent Lok Sabha elections in the state further strengthened his standing. Before being named party president, Nabin was appointed BJP’s working president in December 2025, taking over from veteran leader JP Nadda. Moreover, his elevation comes amid broader discussions within the party about organisational strategy and coordination with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Over the past few months, the former Bihar MLA has travelled extensively across states, meeting party cadres and stressing the need for sustained ground-level work. Nabin’s organisational credentials were also shaped by his role as BJP co-in charge for the 2023 Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, where the party returned to power, defeating the Congress government led by Bhupesh Baghel. The saffron party’s strong performance in the subsequent Lok Sabha elections in the state further strengthened his standing.
