Jajpur,22/10(PPT):The Congress Committee Member (AICC) Madhusmita Acharya on Wednesday strongly criticised the BJP government and its allied cowprotection groups over the death of 20 cows in Nuapada allegedly after consuming leftover food from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s election rally. She said the incident exposes the “double standards” of the BJP and its so-called Go Raksaks (cow protectors). “The party that beats its chest in the name of Go Mata has turned a blind eye when cows died due to its own negligence,” she remarked. Madhusmita alleged that during the Chief Minister’s campaign meeting on October 16, food was cooked for nearly 25,000 people, but only about 5,000 attended. “The remaining food was irresponsibly dumped near Gotama village.Over 20 cows died after consuming the rotten food while 40 others are still battling for life,” she said. She questioned why the postmortem report of the dead cattle has not been made public and why both the Animal Husbandry Department and the Election Commission remain silent.”Where are the Bajrang Dal and VHP who claim to be Go Premi? Why have they not taken to the streets in protest? Their silence shows that their cow protection slogans are nothing but political theatre,” she remarked. Madhusmita also alleged that the poor turnout at the Chief Minister’s rally reflected deep internal rifts within the BJP.Madhusmita demanded Rs 25,000-compensation for each dead cow, immediate public release of the postmortem report and strict action against officials responsible for food disposal. “The BJP owes an apology to the people of Odisha and to the Go Mata they claim to worship,” she said.
