Ravana Podi: The Eternal Victory of Good Over Evil.

0 44

Ravana Podi, the traditional burning of Ravana’s effigy, is one of the major attractions of Dussehra, symbolising the eternal victory of good over evil. The ritual commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana, the king of Lanka, as described in the Ramayana. Celebrated with great enthusiasm across India, the occasion brings people together to witness the burning of the effigy amid prayers, fireworks and festive celebrations. However, the significance of Ravana Podi goes beyond a spectacular public event. Although Ravana was powerful and knowledgeable, his arrogance, ego and disregard for righteousness led to his downfall. Lord Rama, in contrast, represents truth, courage, duty and moral integrity. In today’s world, the festival reminds us to fight the evils of corruption, hatred, violence, injustice and discrimination. Burning Ravana’s effigy has little meaning unless we also strive to overcome the negative qualities within ourselves. Dussehra calls upon us to practise honesty, respect women, help the vulnerable and promote peace, unity and brotherhood. The true message of Ravana Podi is that goodness will ultimately triumph over evil, while humility and righteousness remain the foundations of a just society. The real victory of Dussehra lies not merely in burning Ravana’s effigy, but in eliminating the Ravana within us and choosing the path of truth, compassion and humanity.
