BJD Leader Pritiranjan Loudly condemns inhumane treatment meted out to displaced people by Tata Steel in Jajpur.
Jajpur,29/01(PPT): In a clash between the displaced protesters and the security personnel of the NINL run by Tata Steel in Kalinga Nagar in Jajpur, two people have been critically injured. The displaced protestors staged a protest in front of NINL on Tuesday night. As the protestors assembled together for a peaceful protest in front of the gate of the Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) demanding the get their rights the authorities asked the security to lathi charge on them. The lathi charge was so violent and brutal that many have been injured while two have been critically injured. The Civil Society forum of Jajpur, Sarbahara Suraksha Samiti, Mulanibasi United Forum, Samajika Samata Abhiyaan Jajpur and OSC OST joint action committee have condemned this act of the steel company. “Last night we protested in front of the gate of Tata Steel to get our rights. But the authorities thrashed us with lathis and tore open our clothes. I want to ask who will give us the job then, that we were promised?” said an unidentified woman protestor. They have alleged that Tata Steel is hiring people from outside but not recruiting us.” The protestors were displaced of their lands and promised to be given employment opportunities and rehabilitation in exchange of their land. However, they have not received any such compensation from the company. When they staged a protest they were instead beaten, thrashed and subjected to humility. Tata Steel holds a major stake of NINL at Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex in Jajpur. The opposition party of Biju Janta Dal (BJD) condemned the ill treatment of the displaced people at the hands of the Tata Steel security. The displaced people staged a protest in front of the gate of Tata Steel-run NINL at Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex in Jajpur. “The people were displaced of their lands and in their lands the Industrial Complex was established. They were promised to get employment in the NINL factory,” said BJD leader Pritiranjan Gharai in a press meet at the Sankha Bhawan. On Tuesday night, the displaced inhabitants of the area protested. However, the Tata Steel authorities ordered the security to lathi charge on them.The security men thrashed the protesters both women and men and two people and 1 woman was critically injured and hospitalized. They were beaten, thrashed and subjected to humility.
