Police arrested a poacher who gunned down a man mistaken for wild-boar.

Jajpur,11/01 : Police in Jajpur district arrested a poacher on Monday who gunned down a man mistaken for wild boar.A 45-year-old man died on the spot in the forest area near Khuntapasi village village under Kaliapani police station when a bullet fired from a country-made gun hit him. The incident took place on Saturday night. The victim was identified as Gobinda Behera of Kunida village.
A group of people went to the forest to hunt for wild boars on Saturday night. They had a country-made gun to hunt for the boars. The bullets pierced Gobinda ’s chest and he died of heavy bleeding. Immediately, all the poachers managed to flee from the scene . Gobinda along with Chali Sethi and Chagala Das went to the forest to collect firewood when the incident happened. Both carried the bullet ridden body to the village. Gobinda’s son Madan on Sunday filed an FIR and alleged that his father was shot dead in the forest while collecting firewood. Acting on the FIR, We started investigation and arrested Jayaram Gundua. We also seized a gun from him which he concealed in a cave. Other poachers managed to flee from their villages. We are raiding their hideouts to nab them. The arrested accused was booked under section 302 of IPC and Section 25 and 27 of the Indian Arms act. We are also investigating whether it was an intentional killing or a freak mishap, said the IIC of Kaliapani police station, Ramakanta Mudali.
