Plan ready for medical college work in Jajpur town, construction to begin soon.

Jajpur, June 18: The plan for construction of a medical college in Jajpur town is ready. Initial exercises have also been started for the construction work to go on full swing.

Sources said the office of the Engineer-in-Chief (Civil) PWD of the Odisha government has prepared a plan outlay of Rs 426 crore for construction of the one hundred-bed hospital and medical college.

Jajpur district administration has also handed over 21 acres of land out of the earmarked 40 acres for the project at Ankula.

Larsen and Toubro (L&T), the work execution agency, has submitted a master plan for construction of the main building, hostel block, staff residential quarters, ancillary building and parking slots for the medical college and hospital which will be constructed on turnkey basis.

Construction of a medical college at Jajpur was a long-standing demand of the local residents.

Notably, the Union Cabinet had given its approval for establishment of a government-run medical college and hospital in Jajpur town in this district in December, 2020.

A lot of efforts have gone to make the Jajpur medical college project a reality. Residents and various outfits have been demanding the establishment of a medical college at Jajpur Town. They have also staged agitations on more than 100 occasions.

The agitations got scaled down after the administration announced that it will set up a trauma care centre at Panikoili. The tender process for establishment of the trauma care centre has been completed. ,

L&T has prepared a three- phase layout for construction of parking slots and site entry demarcation. The layout includes construction of the hospital block, medical college, auditorium, gents and ladies hostels, and quarters for resident doctors, nurses, teaching and non-teaching staff and pharmacists.

The parking slot for two-wheelers will be constructed on a 1700-sq metre area. This apart, split floor parking, facilities for open parking of cars and other vehicles will also be constructed.

The layout also proposes to build the main entry point to the medical college from Ankula Square and an emergency entry point at Baitarani river embankment, north of the hospital.

Once completed, the medical college will provide healthcare services to people of Jajpur, Bhadrak, Keonjhar and Kendrapara districts.

Superintendent Engineer of the Cuttack Circle Public Works department Taraprasad Mishra said L&T has been given the charge for construction of the medical college in the tender process. Accordingly, the agency will construct the medical college and hospital on turnkey basis,which will benefit the people of Jajpur and Bhadrak districts, said he added.Jajpur MLA Pranab prakash Das played a crucial role in setting up the medical college.

the work will be overseen by Arun Kumar Patnaik, Executive Engineer, public works department.
