JAJPUR,28/09(PPT): Srinibas Jena, a resident of Kanpur under Dharmasala block in Odisha’s Jajpur district, has been conferred an honorary doctorate for his work in environmental conservation, afforestation and social activism.
The honour was presented at a ceremony held at Sandy Tower in Bhubaneswar. According to the certificate presented to Mr. Jena, the Moscow Research University’s Office of the Executive Evaluation Board conferred on him the honorary title of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Environmental Conservation & Social Activism (Honoris Causa).
The certificate cites his sustained grassroots work in ecological conservation and afforestation initiatives, noting his recognition as the “Tree Man of Odisha”. It also acknowledges his efforts to promote environmental awareness and social action aimed at strengthening climate resilience.
Mr. Jena has been associated with tree plantation and environmental awareness activities for several years. Apart from planting trees, he has focused on their upkeep and on encouraging local communities to participate in conservation initiatives. His work has earned him recognition among environmental activists and residents in his locality.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Mr. Jena said the recognition would encourage him to intensify his efforts towards environmental protection. He said he would continue to promote afforestation, conservation and public awareness, particularly at the grassroots level.
The recognition has brought attention to the role of community-led initiatives in addressing environmental challenges and promoting a culture of conservation. For Mr. Jena, the honour is being seen as an encouragement to continue his efforts to create greener and more environmentally conscious communities.
