8.3 Kg Ganja Seized In Jajpur’s Dharmasala Area , One Arrested .

Jajpur,16/09(PPT): Jajpur’s Dharmashala police seized 8.3 kg of suspected ganja and arrested a 45-year-old man during a vehicle-checking operation near the Srirampur toll plaza on Tuesday, police said.

According to police, the operation was conducted as part of motor vehicle checking and patrolling in the Kantigadia, Neulpur, Srirampur and adjoining areas. At around 10.30 am, police intercepted a cement-coloured TVS Jupiter scooter bearing registration number OD02-CN-9627, which was allegedly travelling from Balichandrapur towards Chandikhole.

The rider was identified as Bikram Nayak (45), son of Hata Kishore Nayak of Kaudikhola village under Mahanga police station in Cuttack district. Another alleged associate, identified as Ramanath Kar, reportedly fled from the spot.

Police said the scooter was carrying 8 kg 300 grams of ganja, including the weight of the gunny bag. During questioning, Nayak allegedly told police that the contraband had been procured from the Phulbani area and was being transported to the Chandikhole locality for sale.

The contraband, scooter and other articles were seized in the presence of witnesses and an Executive Magistrate, police said.

The seized items included 8.3 kg of ganja, the TVS Jupiter scooter, a blue Redmi mobile phone and ₹320 in cash.

Following the seizure, Dharmashala police registered Case No. 387 dated September 15, 2026, under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

SI Sanjukta Behera is investigating the case. The operation was conducted under the direction of Dharmashala police, and SDPO Jajpur Road Sarat Chandra Patra briefed the media in the presence of IIC Chinmayee Sahoo.
