Jajpur,23/09(PPT): Jajpur MP Dr. Rabindra Behera has submitted a proposal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the revival and development of the ancient Pushpagiri centre of learning and establishment of an International Centre for Indian Ocean Culture Studies in the district. Mr. Behera submitted the proposal on August 31, 2026, highlighting Pushpagiri’s historical and educational significance and Odisha’s rich maritime and cultural heritage. The Prime Minister acknowledged the proposal and responded to the MP on September 16, 2026, according to the MP’s office. The proposed centre is intended to promote research and international academic engagement on the cultural links and heritage of the Indian Ocean region while connecting Jajpur’s ancient educational traditions with contemporary scholarship. Mr. Behera said the initiative would help strengthen Jajpur’s historical identity and showcase Odisha’s cultural and maritime heritage on the global stage.
