Jajpur,29/07(PPT):Flood situation in Jajpur district worsened on Wednesday as the flood water entered many villages as the river Baitarani and its tributary Kani are now in spate in Dasarathpur, Jajpur , Binjharpur and Korei blocks .
Large numbers of villages of all the four blocks are marooned in the flood water.
Around 75 villages under 24 gram panchayats have been affected. Road communication has been disrupted in several flood-hit villages. The district administration has deployed seven ODRAF teams, two NDRF teams and 36 boats for rescue and relief operations. Block Development Officers and tehsildars have been directed to ensure the supply of food and polythene sheets to all affected families Some weak points have been identified on river banks and embankments which are highly vulnerable to breach. Senior engineers and experts along with police force have been sent there to keep constant vigil ,” said Ashok Behera the district emergency officer , Jajpur.
Many Medical teams , doctors and para-medical staff have been deployed to check the outbreak of the epidemic.
The main roads in the flood hit areas have been cut off at many areas as five feet high flood water was flowing on the village roads in many flood-hit villages under Dasarathpur block . Senior BJD leader and former minister Pranab Prakash Das on Wednesday visited many villages.
Many mud-walled houses were also destroyed by the flood which was triggered by heavy rains overnight in the area. Large numbers of flood-affected people evacuate with their belongings as their houses were damaged in the flood water in the worst flood-hit Dasarathpur block.
Hundreds of people are still trapped in the flood water and are waiting for help, food, drinking water and medicines in the district. The big flash flood also blocked the smooth flow of heavy traffic on the main road at many places .
