Dussehra is a significant Indian festival celebrated by people of all backgrounds. In 2025, Dussehra falls on Thursday, 2nd October. The festival is also called Vijayadashami and marks the end of the nine-day festival of Navratri. It is observed as the day when Lord Rama defeated the demon king Ravana, representing the triumph of good over evil. In other regions, especially West Bengal and Odisha, it marks the conclusion of Durga Puja after Goddess Durga defeats Mahishasura.Dussehra celebrations include Ram Leela performances, processions, and the burning of Ravana’s effigies. People gather in large grounds, enjoy fairs, and share festive sweets. The festival is not only about joy and celebrations but also teaches important values like honesty, courage, and respect for elders. On this day, families pray for peace and prosperity, and communities come together to promote harmony. Dussehra thus inspires everyone to follow the path of righteousness.
