Cyclone Yaas hits Jajpur houses damaged- trees uprooted.

Jajpur,26/05; Around 3.60 Lakh people of 277 Gram Panchayats in Jajpur district have been affected by the cyclone and many trees uprooted when cyclone Yaas hit the district on Wednesday.The officials evacuated around 42000 people from unsafe areas to cyclone shelters, said Jajpur collector. Chakravarti Singh Rathore.” Cyclonic storm , tossing pieces of around 12 thatched roofs . Some persons sustained minor injuries. None of the injured had life-threatening injuries. The injuries were mostly bumps and bruises “, said Ramakanta Das of Binjharapur. Many wooden cabins were damaged in the district. Jajpur collector Chakravarti Singh Rathore , Additional District Magistrate and other officials rushed to the cyclone hit areas. Road communication was affected due to uprooting of many trees.The fury of nature has left many families homeless following the roofs of their houses being blown away in our village, said a villager of Rasulpur.The authorities are yet to assess the actual loss and damage during the cyclone. However, no loss of human life and livestock has been reported. The power supply and road transport have been badly affected in the cyclone hit areas as many big trees and electric poles have been uprooted.The authorities will soon clear the roads by removing trees. Some schools and cyclone shelters in cyclone hit areas are now jam-packed .We distributed food to the affected persons. After proper assessment, the administration will provide financial help for the affected families to rebuild their houses”, said Chakravarti Singh Rathore the collector of Jajpur. Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Akshay Kumar Mallick is in charge of sending dry food to different parts of the district.
