Jajpur,11/04(PPT): A couple was crushed to death under the wheels of a truck in a head on collision when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle on Sunday at Neulipur Chhack on the National Highway no- 16 under Dharmasala police station of Jajpur district. Their seven year old daughter Gayatri sustained serious injuries in this accident. Police seized the bodies of Laxmikanta Matia (30) and Manjulata (28) of Badadeuli village under Karajia block of Mayurbhanj district and sent their bodies to the government hospital at Dharamsala for autopsy.The couple along with their minor daughter were going to Bhubaneswar on the bike when the accident happened. Police seized the truck . But the driver of the truck managed to flee from the spot , said Saroj Kumar Sahoo the IIC of Dharmasala police station.After the mishap, large numbers of locals blocked NH-16 at Neulipur for two hours and demanded immediate arrest of the driver and compensation for the kin of the deceased. Police officers rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators , added the police officer.The accident took place as the driver of the truck was coming from the wrong side due to the closure of one side of the highway as the officials are now doing repair work of the road , said an eyewitness.
